Religion is when someone or people follow a belief which they think is really important. The way human finds faith, a guide for human to a specific way of life and something believed to be of a supernatural power. In this world there are different types of religions, which every each individual have a different belief. Restraining ourselves against certain temptations is the only way that we can lead a peaceful and pleasant existence. There are many artists and designers that have been inspired from Islam. They create many pieces of contemporary art. Some examples are designers like Shirin Neshat, Hussein Chalayan and Riccardo Tisci. These artists and designers’ works made a lot of difference in portraying the Islamic culture. Shirin Neshat uses photographs and films to represent women’s life in Iran. In Neshat’s photographs only some cover the face when wearing the veils maybe because she is trying to show that there are different reasons why some cover and some do not. Hussein Chalayan uses art/design collection to represent Islamic women and their identity. His collection attracted a lot of attention. Riccardo Tisci uses high fashion to represent Middle East culture, which most people think of where Islam is. The veil is used in all these three designers.
summary
My opinion in religions there are different views that can affect how a person believe in it from the culture, traditions and environment. Even in Islam, the veil can mean different things and worn different ways. How contemporary art can represent Islamic culture is by images and design. Artists get inspired and use art to give a reflection on Muslim women. The veil presents many meanings to the artist according to where they are from.
