The Syrian Conflict through Children’s Eyes

CNN’s article “The Syrian conflict through children’s eyes” by Lauren Russell reports that 350,000 Syrian civilians are seeking shelters in their neighboring countries such as Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan. For example, there are 90,000 Syrian refugees stay in Lebanon. Most of the refugees are under 18 years old. The children are suffering from the war. When teaching art class at school in Lebanon’s refugee camp, the Syrian children don’t paint pictures of flowers and teddy bears. They are painting some of the last unforgettable images they saw in the hometowns that they were forced to abandon like bodies. Nowadays, they don’t talk about which side they are on, and teachers say only that they hope for peace in the country, not for victory by one side or the other. Everyone would like to go back to Syria as soon as possible.

According to my point of view, this story is very important for us to think about the effects of civil war. Nowadays in Thailand, we have to face with many political conflicts and it forces us to make a choice which side do we believe in. I think that we should carefully reconsider about it because somebody wants to use it as a tool for his or her own conflict of interests.
